Ex Patriots and Overseas Property Owners
In July 2003, Hornbeam acquired the specialist Tax Practice of Michael Blackburn. Michael had been a tax manager with Arthur Anderson and a trainer for the Institute of Taxation. He had developed a practice specialising in foreign nationals living in the UK and UK nationals living abroad. Hornbeam has developed and widened that expertise and has a website dedicated to the International Aspects of UK Taxation. We have also written two booklets, Hornbeam's Guides to UK Taxation of Overseas Property and Taxation for Emigrants, for our attendance at 'A Place in the Sun Live' 2010. Landlords and Buy-to-let Owners
Derek Leach started as a client of Hornbeam, then became an employee of Hornbeam for a couple of years before developing a role with the Eastern Landlords Association. We have worked together ever since and not only have a very large client base of landlords (over 100) but have written a specialist booklet, The Hornbeam Guide to Taxation of Residential Letting, and delivered seminars to specialist landlord groups on identifying opportunities to minimise tax. Business Acquisitions
Hornbeam's senior director, Phil Needham, has worked on a number of business acquisitions and has written a booklet to assist prospective purchasers entitled How to Successfully Expand Your Business by Acquisition.

Business valuations are needed for many purposes:

Pubs and Restaurants
Hornbeam has always had pubs and restaurants amongst it's clients, but the acquisition of the practice of the late Ian Crosse in 2006 greatly expanded our client base in this industry. As always we have sought to develop our experience and benefit all our clients by sharing our growing expertise and have issued specialist bulletins for this sector.
Motor Racing Teams
A series of coincidences have given us a particular strength in this sector, dealing with the unusual accounting practices, the minefield of VAT, and the general precarious existence that is the norm in this industry.
Flat Management Companies
The freeholds of blocks of flats are commonly held by flat management companies which are usually owned and controlled by the flat owners'. We typically assist the directors with their duties:
- Setting a budget,
- Collecting management charges,
- Arranging adequeate insurance,
- Arranging the shareholders AGM, including setting the agenda, taking and distributing minutes, and of course
- Preparing and submitting statutory accounts to Companies House.
Solicitor's Accounts
As a firm of Registered Auditors Hornbeam are pleased to accept appointment of reporting accountant, reporting to the Solicitors Regulation Authority on solicitor’s compliance with the solicitor’s accounts rules.
